Toney makes big plays for KC; Bradberry called for a questionable penalty in the final minutes
Former New York Giants Kadarius Toney and James Bradberry were key figures on Sunday night as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 on Sunday night in the 2023 Super Bowl.
A Bradberry holding a penalty on a third and eighth pass destined for Juju Smith-Schuster with 1:54 time left gave the Chiefs a first and a hit and allowed them to close the clock down to the final seconds shorten before Harrison Butker won the Super Bowl. winning 27-yard field goal: 08 left.
Bradberry was a second-team All-Pro for the Eagles in 2022 after being fired by the Giants as part of a salary cap move.
You can judge if Bradberry should have been penalized for that game.
Bradberry said in the aftermath that the call was correct.
Toney had a turbulent tenure with the Giants, playing just 12 games out of a possible 24. The Giants traded the 2021 midseason first-round pick to the Chiefs for third- and sixth-round draft picks.
Toney contributed with two big games Sunday in the fourth quarter with a touchdown catch and the longest punt return in Super Bowl history that helped position the Chiefs to win the title.
Making sure the Eagles don’t win the Super Bowl and having the Empire State Building greenlit again is probably the best thing Toney has done for the Giants since they made him the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Toney caught that 3-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to level the score at 12:08 in the game. The extra point gave the Chiefs a 28-27 lead.
Toney followed with a 65-yard punt return, the longest in Super Bowl history. That put Kansas City at the Eagles 5 and set up a four-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Skyy Moore. That gave Kansas City a 35-27 lead, 9:26.
Toney’s punt return broke the previous record set by the Denver Broncos’ Jordan Norwood, who broke a 61-yard punt return for the Broncos in Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers.
The Eagles leveled the score after Toney Punt’s return helped Kansas City to an eight-point lead. Some magic from Mahomes and Bradberry’s early penalty helped the Chiefs become champions.
