We take a look at whether the Glorious Model O 2 has improved on its near-perfect predecessor
Updated: March 14, 2023 5:08 p.m
We’ve been looking forward to testing the Glorious Model O 2 since we reviewed the previous Model O- over a year ago. The Model O- managed to get one 4.5/5 of us then and now on our Best Gaming Mice page so the sequel has a lot to offer and sequels are rarely as good as the original.
Given that Glorious has now become a significant player in PC gaming peripheral gaming, the standards they must meet have grown correspondingly significantly. Other than that, they haven’t made a mistake yet, but there’s always time to screw something up.
A few months after the official announcement, we kindly received a review device a few weeks in advance, we’ve tried out the new mouse to get a feel for it and we’re ready to present our findings. So enjoy our full Glorious Model O 2 review as we take a close look at this bad boy. Well, more like a macro lens, but yeah, you know what we mean.

In the past we’ve talked about how boring unboxing gaming mice is as they all generally follow the same formula and we got tired of writing about it. Unfortunately, the story is similar with the Glorious Model O 2: it’s safe, it’s eco-friendly and it comes with everything you need. So yeah it’s boring but you stand by it, the details are as follows.

The experience itself is generally average and a little harsh. When you slide the lid over the inner box, you are greeted by the thin box containing all the papers. After removing these, find the mouse. As usual, there’s a small foam grommet to keep the mouse in its small cradle.
As long as the Mouse doesn’t get run over while buying a car or fall out of a helicopter, you can expect it to arrive in perfect condition like our review unit, so you don’t have to worry about chaotic delivery people heaving it over your fence and surviving.

The facility is the same as always. Connect the mouse with the included USB Type-A to Type-C cable to get started right away, or plug in the dongle and flip the switch to ‘2.4’ Setting to establish a wireless connection.
You can also choose the rogue option and connect via Bluetooth 5.2, which requires the same switch to be set to ‘BT’ Set up and search for the mouse in the Bluetooth settings of your gaming laptop, gaming PC or tablet.
First of all, it should be noted that the Glorious Model O 2 is also available in matt black in addition to the white test device that was sent to us. Whichever colorway you choose, you’ll be treated to a fairly elegant, yet ultimately derivative, design.
That’s not to say we don’t like the design, quite the opposite. In fact, we know how hard it must be to innovate when the shape of the human hand remains stubbornly the same year after year.

This means that mouse designers, be it Asus, Corsair, Razer, or. Yes. Gorgeous, everyone is stuck with the same 3 or 4 rough shapes. So unless you opt for an ergonomic mouse with a medical back, like our boy the Posturite penguin, you really can only make small changes to the shape, size, and position of the buttons.

Of course, aesthetics and color schemes are always changeable, and we think Glorious has done an excellent job of modernizing the now-dated design of the original Model O. It’s a great product, and luckily we’ve kept it so we can compare the two head-to-head can.

First we see the removal of the more detailed Buff Glorious PC Gaming Master Race guy that was the mascot of their previous branding. While we miss the zero punctuation reference, we understand why Glorious outgrew this branding. We are indeed grateful for that, as the Glorious Model O 2 looks much neater and tidier.
We’ve already mentioned that the design is understated and we stand by that, but it looks very cool despite the splitting honeycomb shape.
Front and center we find a simplified version of the aforementioned Glorious Beefcake Man right between the mouse buttons, below the handy DPI cycle button. If you’re right-handed, that’s the only visible branding, resulting in a near-brand-neutral appearance, which we always like.
On the right side of the mouse we find branding with the inscription ‘GLORIOUS│MODEL O 2’. Again, not visible from the user’s perspective. That’s all for branding aside from the inevitable company sticker, which fortunately is positioned on the bottom of the mouse.

Another change that visually differentiates the Glorious Model O 2 from its predecessor is the shape of the holes that make up the weight-saving honeycomb design. Previously they were hexagonal, with the sharp corners resulting in an aggressive look and more noticeable texture on the palm. Glorious have now made these holes circular with rounded edges, expanding the definition of “honeycomb” and creating a nicer, smoother aesthetic. Also, the holes are now completely absent from the mouse buttons, where they previously extended about an inch down to the scroll wheel.
When it comes to RGB lighting, the Glorious Model O 2 also does well, although a few hundred holes in the shell is something of a cheat, as even the dimmest LEDs will be vibrant.

Of course, the holes are covered when you’re actually using the mouse, but there’s also a curved disk of diffused RGB that runs along each side of the mouse, just below the almost imperceptible seam between the top shell and the sides. So if you’re into the glowing vibes while gaming, they’re still here to enjoy.
That’s it for remarkable images, you can enjoy our spectacular internal product photography for reference to see these details for yourself.
Glorious Model O 2 build quality: rock solid
As far back as we can remember, this is the best-built mouse we’ve seen. It doesn’t creak when pressed, rattle when shaken, or otherwise feel anything but fantastic.

We also have to praise the surface quality. It’s seemingly smooth to the touch, but a closer look reveals a slightly rough micro-texture that keeps the mouse stuck to your palm during the sweatiest high-intensity clutches in Apex Legends, Valorant, or CS:GO.

Whatever first person shooter game you choose, this mouse will be a reliable weapon for winning, as the buttons are clickable and defined, the scroll wheel is tactile and has a nice bump between notches, and 100% PTFE Mouse feet slide with the best of them.
There’s a problem, though: Where the upper shell meets the bottom of the mouse on the back just below the palm of your hand, there’s an overlap, resulting in a slightly sharp edge. While we didn’t find this noticeable, we did spot it, so thought we’d mention it just in case, although such a small flaw could be due to manufacturing or design tolerances.
Glorious performance of the Model O 2: Competitive through and through
We also have no complaints when it comes to the Glorious Model O 2’s performance, with the Glorious BAMF 2.0 sensor delivering ridiculous performance 26,000 DPI at a maximum speed of 650IPS. This is 250 for reference more than the Logitech G Pro X Superlight and firmly positions the O 2 model as a competitor to the current king.

In terms of actual gameplay, we found the Glorious Model O 2 a delight. All of the things we mentioned about build quality shine here, combining to create a deadly FPS gaming mouse that won’t hold you back. Instead, there’s no opportunity for excuses, which was a bit depressing since, frankly, we’re pretty bad at gaming.
Aside from the demoralizing revelation, that’s what you’d expect from a gaming mouse: a tool that allows you to use your skills, or lack thereof, in the game of your choice without compromising them, and the Glorious Model O 2 definitely does.
We also want to mention the side buttons here, as they were perfectly positioned for us, so that throwing a grenade or melee attack became a matter of course. While these buttons don’t click quite as satisfactorily as the main mouse buttons, they are instantaneous and require the perfect amount of force, making them easy to press but keeping accidental presses to a minimum.
