In the battle of 13th Gen Intel Laptop vs. Ryzen 7000 Series Laptop CPUs and APUs, who will emerge victorious? As always, it will likely be the case that both companies win in certain areas, but what you need to know as a consumer is how each of the different SKUs is performing.
Although by now some Intel laptops of the 13 we will talk about that below.

AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Laptop CPU Model Names Explained
Comparing laptops of the 13 something completely different. Check out our AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Laptop Guide for a more detailed breakdown of how it works, but in summary, the order from most powerful to least powerful is as follows: Ryzen 7045 Dragon Range laptops (Gaming & Workstation, use Zen 4 architecture), Ryzen 7040 Phoenix Range laptops (Creative and light to medium games, use Zen 4 architecture), Ryzen 7035 Rembrandt-R laptops (ultra-thin, for creatives use Zen 3+ architecture), Ryzen 7030 Barcelo-R laptops (general use ultra-thin, use Zen 3 architecture), Ryzen 7020 Mendocino laptops (Budget laptops for general use with Zen 2 architecture).
AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX vs. Intel Core i9-13980HX
While we’re yet to see any proper independent tests/benchmarks of the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX (Dragon Range) CPU, based on PassMark results posted online, it seems like a worthy contender based on the leaked synthetic benchmarks that We’ve seen them posted online, although it’s still uncertain who will be the winner in the end.
The AMD CPU actually exceeded expectations in PassMark (4,405 single-threaded, 61,985 multi-threaded), not only beating the Intel Core i9-13980HX laptop CPU (4,398 & 48,954), but also getting close to the desktop Intel’s performance i9-13900KS processor (4,809 & 62,116), at least in multi-thread/core performance, which is an impressive performance indeed. The full list can be found on the PassMark website.
In Geekbench, the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX scored 2,127 single-core and 19,403 multi-core scores versus the Intel Core i9-13980HX’s 2,103 and 19,885 points — pretty even scores.
AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX vs. Intel Core i9-13900HX
Passmark scores for the AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX have been released showing it coming in at 4,007 single-threaded and 44,984 multi-threaded, which falls short of the Intel Core i9-13900HX at 4,293 and 46,436, although it’s expected that the AMD -Laptop CPU cheaper in price than the above AMD variant and with higher energy efficiency. We’ll have to wait and see how that develops.
Ryzen 7000 series laptop APUs versus 13th Gen Intel laptop iGPUs
An APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) is essentially a combination of CPU and GPU, which means that laptops without dedicated (discrete) graphics cards can run somewhat graphically demanding tasks (though not at the level of a dedicated GPU). It’s a term and technology primarily used by AMD, while Intel uses “integrated graphics”/iGPUs, which form the same function but are slightly different technologically (less integrated into the CPU) and tend to be less for graphical functions are efficient.
Tech Wizard/Roadie Gamers Nexus did a video in 2022 comparing the best integrated graphics on the market at the time, and as you can see from the screenshot below, AMD APUs have outperformed comparable SKU Intel Iris Xe / UHD Graphics, stayed but far behind the victory is a dedicated Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti graphics card.

There has been much chanted and danced about the potential of the new Ryzen 7000 series APUs and how they perform compared to Intel’s integrated graphics, with claims that they would be somewhat revolutionary for thin and light notebooks/ultrabooks, but recent news have thrown a little cold water on these claims.
AMD Ryzen 7040 Phoenix APU performance
The Phoenix series is AMD’s most powerful line of APUs (with the Dragon series focusing more on CPU performance, assuming they’re paired with a dedicated graphics card).
Initial data discovered by Twitter Tech Leaker/Reporter @TUM_APISAK by UserBenchmark, which gave it an average graphics score of 44.3%: more or less comparable to a desktop Radeon RX 570 graphics card / Nvidia GTX 1060 Mobile (which scored 46.7%) or a GTX 1650 Ti laptop GPU. If this data can be trusted, that’s a pretty impressive result, however, this appears to be based on a technical pattern that may have been downgraded based on more recent information (read below).

As you can see in the images below (courtesy of WCCFTECH), AMD appears to have dropped the GPU clock by 200MHz on the Ryzen 9 7940HS APU, and the same is true for the Ryzen 7 7840HS and Ryzen 5 7640HS APUs as well . Such a drop inevitably leads to a drop in performance and raises the question of why this is happening. Over and beyond @shilling on Twitter discovered that PCIe 5 support for Phoenix also seems to be no longer a reality as they have been downgraded to PCIe 4.
Ultimately, despite these two changes, AMD APUs will almost certainly outperform Intel iGPUs, but these downgrades are a bit irksome given the hype surrounding them.

Frequently Asked Questions on Intel 13th Gen Laptops vs. Ryzen 7000 Series Laptops
Are Intel 13th Gen Laptops Better Than AMD?
The answer to this question depends very much on the specific laptop and the CPU in the line, but it seems that the top-end AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX can match the Intel Core i9-13980HX in both single-core and multi-core -Area proposes scenarios.
That’s not necessarily the case with other SKUs, however, and Intel laptops could prevail.
Will Ryzen 7000 Laptops Be Better Than 12th Gen Intel Laptops?
Pretty sure. Some Ryzen 7000-series processor SKUs rival, and in some cases beat, 13th Gen Intel laptop CPUs.
12th Gen Intel laptops are no comparison by comparison.
